Basic fuchsin is a dark -green powder.
T℃melting about 200 degree.
In aqueous solution it turns purple.
It is a triphenylmethane dye.
Consists of rosaniline, pararosaniline and other components.

Applicable for:
- staining of collagen fibers,
- dyeing of elastin fibers,
- staining of erythrophil granules,
- staining of the nucleoplasm of CNS tissues,
- staining of lignified walls of vascular plants.

Basic fuchsin is widely used
for identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis
in bacteriological preparations.

Combined with phenol (carbolic fuchsin)
used for painting according to the method
Ziehl-Nielsen acid-resistant
Mycobacterium tuberculosis and leprosy.

Also used for:
- general Chlamydomonas staining,
- fabric staining using the Schiff method,
- staining of cell nuclei in biology,
- lactofuchsin component for microscopy,
- dyeing of textile fibers.
